Blyxa japonica is an attractive grasslike plant with a natural bushy appearance. It may not appear so but it is stem plant. The long slenderl eaves cover the short stem giving it a rosette like appearance. Under intense lighting the plant will display a golden and reddish hue and will exhibit more compact growth. With lower levels of illumination Blyxa will be taller and greener. Its growth is not invasive as it propagates by producing basal side shoots that can be cut off and replanted. This plant is commonly used as a transition plant between the small foreground plant and the tall stem plants in the middle.
