Caulerpa racemosa Macroalgae

Caulerpa is a popular macroalgae commonly kept in saltwater aquariums. C. racemosa is a species that is commonly known as sea grapes due to its appearance. Its structure consists of grape-like spherical tips that emerge from branches that are attached onto runners. C. racemosa anchors itself onto surfaces like rock and sand with rhizoids, which resemble roots. This species of macroalgae is popular amongst hobbyists because of its ability to absorb nutrients such as nitrates and phosphates. This natural filter is hardy and has a fast growth rate making it a great addition to all saltwater aquariums and/or refuguims. Macroalgae also provides an ideal habitat for desirable organisms such as copepods and amphipods that in turn act as food for fish and coral.
