Ceratophyllum demersum - Hornwort

Hornwort is a free-floating plant known for its naturally fast growth and hardy character. Because of its potentially explosive growth rate, this plant is a great excess nutrient sponge that outcompetes algae. Hornwort is also known to excrete biochemicals that inhibit the growth of algae. Hornwort does not demand high lighting and CO2 supplementation is not required making it an excellent plant for beginners. Its feathery, thin, light green leaves provide great cover for fry and shrimp where can also feed on the micro-organisms that grow on it.
