For those acquainted with attaching moss onto driftwood you will know there are two ways to do so. One is wrapping the moss using cotton threads/fishing line and the other is gluing. There are however disadvantages to these two methods. It can get messy, difficult to do in-situ, and you may need to pull the driftwood out of your tank.

There is an alternative method that makes it less of a hassle to attach moss especially for pieces of driftwood that are already established in the aquarium. Depending on the surface, shape of the driftwood, this technique may not work on all surfaces.

Things I used in this guide

  • Stainless steel mesh
  • Moss
  • Cotton threads
  • Driftwood

Step 1

Tie the moss onto the mesh.

Step 2

Bend the moss tied mesh into the shape of the branch and place it onto the surface. Mould the mesh further so it is securely wrapped around the driftwood.

Tip

Cover whole sections to achieve a natural look.

Result

You can also get creative by combining different species of mosses on a length of driftwood. You can easily interchange the mosses when you want to achieve a different feel in the aquarium.

This technique makes the process of propagating moss simple; just take the mesh piece out of the water, trim, and place back.
